Thousands of Runners Join 7th Heroes Run 2018- Iloilo Leg

Iloilo City – More than 1,500 running enthusiasts from Panay and Negros Islands joined the 7th Heroes Run 2018- Iloilo Leg spearheaded by the 3rd Infantry Division in partnership with the Philippine Military Academy Alumni Association Inc. (PMAAAI) on October 14 at SM City, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.

This event aims to support the Hero Foundation Inc. (HFI) and to honor the fallen and wounded Marawi soldiers and for the benefit of their families. It also aims to generate awareness on the plight of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of Marawi.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines has been conducting Heroes Run since 2012. It can be remembered that it was held simultaneously this year on October 7 in Metro Manila, Cebu, Tarlac, Bohol, Pagadian, Cagayan De Oro, Catbalogan, Legazpi, Isabela, Baguio, Cotabato and Davao.

Highlights of racing event were the 1st Placers of various categories. For 3K male and female categories are Alden Toronela and Ronylen Sigre; 5K are Mark Galapin and Rezel Ciray; for 10K are Alfrence Braza and Jackie Laparero and for 21K are Ryan Hulleza and Alexandra Ganzon.

Among the 1,500 runners were a 73- year old Eduardo Tan-Kim of Barangay San Agustin, City Proper who bagged the oldest runner award and Fernando Cubon, 66, of Poblacion 3, Hamtic, Antique who broke his previous 10-kilometer run record of 1 hour and 43 minutes by finishing it now within 1 hour and 38 minutes.

Colonel Benedict Arevalo, Commander, 301st Brigade who also ran 21K thanked and congratulated all the participants, sponsors and organizers for the success of the Heroes Run 2018- Iloilo Leg.

Proceeds of the event will be donated to the Hero Foundation Inc., specifically to the dependents of the Marawi fallen and wounded soldiers.###
