Army asks support from Ilonggos in preserving freedom and democracy

CAMP PERALTA, Jamindan, Capiz – Brigadier General Francisco Delfin, Assistant Division Commander of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division asked full support of the public especially Ilonggos in preserving freedom and democracy as well as peace and progress that our forefathers and heroes have fought for against foreign invaders.

In his message during the 120th commemoration of Philippine Independence Day in Sta Barbara, Iloilo, BGen Delfin assured the public that the 3ID is committed to protect the sovereignty of the state, ensure the security of the populace and support the national government initiative for peace and development.

Further, Delfin also asked support from the community since peace is everyone’s responsibility.

Also present on the said event were Prof. Ambeth Ocampo, Associate Professor and former Chairman of the Department of History, Ateneo de Manila University as guest of honor; Hon Arthur Defensr , Governor, Province if Iloilo as well as Police Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao, Regional Director, Police Regional Office 6; Police Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, Provincial Director, Iloilo Police Provincial Office; Colonel Leonardo Peña, OIC, 301st Infantry Brigade and other guests.

After the ceremonial flag raising, a wreath laying in the monument of General Martin Delgado led by Ocampo and Delfin was also held.

Sta Barbara is the venue of the said celebration in the province as it is the first area outside Luzon to declare independence from the Spanish colony. It can be recalled that the said town was also the venue for the national celebration of the 117th Independence Day in 2015.
